The goal of Satch & Sol is to offer you a refreshingly unique children's clothing collection that is fair trade, earth-friendly and
handmade.
Fair trade
Satch & Sol partners only with
artists involved in fair trade entities. Satch & Sol is applying for membership to the
Fair Trade Federation.
To Satch & Sol, Fair Trade translates simply to paying appropriate amounts for handmade products no matter where in the world they are created. Under fair trade conditions, artists are better able to earn and provide livable wages, child labor is prohibited, communities are economically strengthened, and families are more able to live together versus searching out work at far away factories.
Earth-friendly
Satch & Sol strives to be eco-friendly by constantly seeking and implementing eco-friendly business options. Satch & Sol was accepted as a member of
Green America in August 2009. We welcome your input for improvements at
handmade@satchsol.com.
Current endeavors include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Working to implement all-natural (berry and wood) dyes for all slipper styles. See ladybug all-natural dye slipper in online boutique, for an example.
- Packaging, shipping and gift wrap materials that are re-used, re-usable, and/or are 100% recycled/recyclable. Above all, we minimize use of all materials. For example, slippers and boots arriving from Mongolia require zero packaging beyond the exterior recyclable cardboard box and 100% recycled/recyclable shoe boxes are only provided for large orders upon request and require increased compensation.
- Through product selection, we have made a huge effort to avoid products whose creation brings large amounts of waste, despite how lovely or profitable said products might be.
- Marketing and advertising materials are minimal, focused online, and, when printed, use only FCC certified printers, dyes and paper selections.
- Since shipping is a necessity for doing business, Satch & Sol annually pays carbon offsets for an estimate of the fuel used to ship Satch & Sol products worldwide, as well as for fuel to power this website.
